Marie Wee

She/Her

Fundraising Associate

Marie is a first-generation Canadian Chinese who grew up in the North York area of Toronto, Ontario. Marie graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts specializing in Equity Studies, and Women and Gender Studies. Drawing from her lived experiences, her academic interests delve into mental health challenges for racialized, immigrant, low-income communities, emphasizing access, navigation, and stigma. She's passionate about exploring innovative methods to integrate and reclaim storytelling, education, and expressive arts as tools of resistance and healing. She brings years of experience working in the non-profit sector into her work with SWO.

Outside of SWO, Marie is an active volunteer for Fred Victor and the Centre for Community Partnerships. In her free time, Marie is an avid language learner, and loves to explore cozy cafes, bookstores, and art museums around the city. She also enjoys experimenting with various baking recipes and immersing herself in the world of literature.

Since joining SWO, Marie has been able to further strengthen her grant writing and research skills. She has also learned about new grants that she had not previously known about. As a finance associate, Marie is grateful for the support and patience her team has extended to her, making her transition into SWO easier.
