Job Description:​

Starts With One (SWO)’s E-Learning program currently services 30+ families from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with supplemental online tutoring with over 70+ Volunteer Community Tutors. We focus on serving families from equity-seeking communities in Canada (i.e., refugee status, newly immigrated, racialized, low-income). We are currently seeking a creative and strategic Communications Associate to join our team. The Communications Associate will play a key role in shaping and amplifying SWO’s message, engaging our community, and enhancing our visibility across various social media platforms.

Responsibilities: 

  • Creating Instagram stories and highlights for events and organizational updates

  • Come up with advertisement strategies for our events or recruitment for our E-learning program.

  • Maintaining all of SWO's social media accounts (Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).

  • Respond to comments and inquiries on our social media pages in a timely manner.

  • Use Canva to design graphics for our website & social media channels.

  • Draft blog posts and communication emails for volunteers.

  • Draft reports on results from demographic surveys and program feedback

  • Write out captions that grab the attention of future volunteers and followers.

Requirements: â€‹

  • Familiarity with Instagram, passion for social media management. 

  • Strong writing, communication, organizational and time management skills.

​

Assets (Not Requirements): 

  • Previous experience with marketing, graphic design, and digital marketing and accessibility.

  • Ability to use photoshop, canva, and WIX is an asset but not required.

Job Description: 

Starts With One (SWO)’s E-Learning program currently services 30+ families from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with supplemental online tutoring with over 70+ Volunteer Community Tutors. We focus on serving families from equity-seeking communities in Canada (i.e., refugee status, newly immigrated, racialized, low-income). We are currently looking for individuals who are passionate about Ontario’s Curriculum to house curriculum-relevant worksheets for our Volunteer Community Tutors.

Responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with Volunteer Coordination Team and Volunteer Community Tutors to effectively provide resource support to tutors and students.

  • Synthesize new worksheets and resources that are accessible for students and tutors for their lesson planning.

  • Arrange and scope out possible curriculum resources, adding them to our Google Drive resource folder.

  • Attend quarterly check-ins with Volunteer Community Tutors to present the latest in education technology, resources, and research to tutors.

  • Contribute ideas to improve and scale the E-Learning Program.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Google apps and extensions is an asset.

  • Previous experience in research is an asset .

  • Being comfortable in new and challenging environments, strong communication & organizational skills.

Job Description:

We are currently seeking an organized and energetic Events Associate to join our team. The Events Associate will play a vital role in planning, coordinating, and executing events that support SWO’s mission, bringing our community together and enhancing our outreach efforts.

Responsibilities: 

  • Planning and executing events for SWO along with the Events Director.

  • Research and reach out to potential guest speakers for our events.

  • Manage all event set-up, tear down and follow-up processes (for in-person events).

  • Work under the Events Director to maintain event budgets, book venues/equipment, access and submit events’ overall success reports.

  • Manage event operations and logistics on the day of (scheduling attendees, scoping out location etc).

 

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Google apps and extensions is an asset.

  • Previous leadership experience is an asset.

  • Being comfortable in new and challenging environments.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Job Description:

Starts With One (SWO)’s E-Learning program currently services 30+ families from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with supplemental online tutoring with over 70+ Volunteer Community Tutors. We are currently seeking a passionate and driven Finance & Fundraising Associate to join our team. The Finance & Fundraising Associate will be instrumental in securing the necessary funds to sustain and expand our programs, with a particular focus on grant writing and donor relations.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Proposal writing and searching for grants.

  • Work under the Finance Director to oversee the organization’s finances.

  • Help schedule and execute large purchases (e.g.: for our events & volunteers) and manage transactions.

  • Collaborate with the team to prepare an annual impact reports.

  • Help reimburse the Executive Team when needed.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace.

  • Being comfortable in new and challenging environments.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Job Description: 

Starts With One (SWO)’s E-Learning Program and Education Justice Coalition are currently growing in size every week. As a result, our volunteer registry is constantly shifting, and given that we are a non-profit organization, volunteer turnover is very high. Becoming a SWO Human Resources Officer is a challenging, yet rewarding, opportunity to exercise your communication and management skills to benefit your local community. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Hiring new Volunteer Community Tutors and Executive Team members.

  • Identifying professionals, current and former members that can host workshops for all volunteers.

  • Coordinating orientation sessions for new members.

  • Managing responses to exit forms and communicating feedback with other teams.

  • Conducting internal reviews as needed and ensuring the team's psychological safety.

  • Drafting reference letters and other supporting documentation as needed.

 

Requirements: 

  • Currently in Grade 10 or above. 

  • Passion for community leadership & education equity.

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace.

  • Key skills: organization, communication, and time management.

 

Assets (Not Requirements): 

  • Previous experience with human resources (i.e., hosting interviews, hiring).

  • Previous leadership experience.

Job Description:

Starts With One (SWO)’s E-Learning program currently serves 30+ families across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with supplemental online tutoring provided by over 70+ Volunteer Community Tutors. Our focus is on supporting families from equity-seeking communities in Canada, including those with refugee status, newly immigrated, racialized, and low-income backgrounds. The duties of the Logistics Associate may evolve as Starts With One continues to grow. Currently, the core responsibilities of this role include the creation and design of the organization’s website, as well as the visualization of the organization’s statistical progress through charts and graphs. The Logistics Associate will play a crucial role in enhancing the organization’s digital presence and ensuring that data is effectively communicated to stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and create visual representations of the organization’s statistical progress, including charts and graphs, to be used in reports, presentations, and on the website.

  • Assist in the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of the SWO website, ensuring it is user-friendly, visually appealing, and reflective of the organization’s mission.

  • Collaborate with other SWO members to gather the necessary data and content for the website and visual materials.

  • Regularly update the website with new information, events, and resources to keep it current and engaging for visitors.

  • Provide technical support for website-related issues, ensuring that any problems are promptly addressed and resolved.

  • Contribute to discussions on improving the organization’s digital strategies and tools to better serve the community.

 

Assets (Not Requirements):

  • Previous experience with logistics and web design, specifically using WIX or similar platforms.

  • Experience in data visualization, including the ability to create clear and compelling charts and graphs.

  • Previous leadership experience, particularly in roles that required collaboration and communication across teams.

  • Familiarity with digital marketing strategies or content management systems (CMS).

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Job Description: 

Starts With One (SWO)’s E-Learning program currently services 30+ families from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with supplemental online tutoring with over 70+ Volunteer Community Tutors. We focus on serving families from equity-seeking communities in Canada (i.e., refugee status, newly immigrated, racialized, low-income). We are currently looking for individuals who are passionate about community leadership to help with volunteer coordination and managing our program.

Responsibilities:

  • Interacting with students, families & volunteers; 

  • Registering students as part of our E-learning program; 

  • Helping to manage a team of volunteer teachers (check-ins, answering questions etc.)

  • Facilitating first-time meetings between students & teachers;

  • Facilitating check-in meetings with students & teachers.

  • Acting a liaison between tutors and families relative to organizational policies

 

Requirements: 

  • Currently in Grade 10 or above 

  • Passion for community leadership & education equity

  • Previous experience with volunteer coordination 

  • Previous leadership experience
