Volunteer Community Tutor
MINIMUM TIME COMMITMENT: 1-2 hours a week.
Job Description:
Starts With One (SWO)’s E-Learning program is dedicated to providing equitable educational support to families across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Currently, we service over 30 families through supplemental online tutoring, with the support of more than 70 Volunteer Community Tutors. Our program prioritizes serving families from equity-seeking communities in Canada, including those with refugee status, newly immigrated families, racialized communities, and low-income households. We are seeking passionate individuals to join our Volunteer Community Teaching Team and contribute to our mission of education equity and social justice.

Responsibilities:

Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions with your assigned student using Zoom, Google Meets, or Microsoft Teams.

Prepare and tailor lessons to meet the student’s academic needs.

Keep records of the student’s progress and adjust strategies as needed.

Regularly update parents/guardians on their child’s progress and collaborate on addressing any challenges.

Attend quarterly meetings with the Executive Team and other volunteers to share experiences and receive support.

Act as a role model and encourage your student’s academic and personal growth.
Requirements:

Currently in Grade 10 or above.

Passionate about education equity, social justice and teaching.

Assets (Not Requirements):

Previous experience as a teacher/tutor.

Familiarity with Ontario K-12 curriculum.
-
Previous experience as a summer camp counsellor.
